Improve Lightning Survival By Wetting Clothes?

Posted by admin     Category: pocket survival, survival in the wilderness, survival shelter

A Minnesota man survives being struck by lightning, and doctors say it was likely his wet clothes that saved him.  Kent Lilyerd was passing in and out of conscious for close to two hours!

Doctors believe the jolt did not pass through Lilyerd’s body because of the wet clothes.  To make matters even worse, he was wearing a red baseball cap with a metal button on top and work boots with…  you guessed it, steel tips!  It is believed the lightning started at the top of the cap and came back for a second round through his boots.

If that doesn’t sound like your idea of fun, for the ultimate in pocket survival…  Lilyerd even had a bullet in his pocket which oddly was not set off!

Cell Phone: All-Purpose Pocket Survival Tool

Posted by admin     Category: pocket survival

I came across this article in PC World about a different kind of survival.

When I think of “survival,” I think of the wilderness, the jungle, or trapped in an avalanche.  This article focuses on… urban survival!  Food, shelter, and long-term survival are mentioned, but I found another section more interesting.

Move aside Swiss Army Knife, make room for the all-mighty pocket survival champion: the cell phone!
